Resumen

GARCIA ROCO PEREZ, Oscar N; CASTILLO BETANCOURT, Esther M; MAS SARABIA, Maheli  y  DUENAS ROSQUETE, Lemis. Some considerations about the oral epidemic Kaposi’s sarcoma. AMC [online]. 2007, vol.11, n.2, pp. 0-0. ISSN 1025-0255.

Kaposi’s sarcoma was a rare tumor before the infection by the human immunodeficiency virus when it became common, a neoplasia composed by vascular and fibroblastic elements, is considered. Its histogenesis is still controversial, its origin relates to different mesenchymal elements that include Schwann cells’ and blood vessels. It is presented equally in both sexes and near the 60% of the patients have affectation of the skin, of the oropharyngeal mucosa or both. The rest has visceral affectation, gastrointestinal and/or respiratory tract fundamentally, although rarely a Kaposi’s sarcoma can be see without visible lesions in the skin. The cause is still controversial, but is another of the types of cancers with possible viral implication, associates with the serologic evidence of infection by VHH 8, which is shown in patients with illness by HIV. In the treatment can be included different measures like incision of the lesions, radiation therapy, chemotherapy and reduction or suppression of the drug immunosuppression. The reduction of this therapy associates with disappearance of the Kaposi’s sarcoma in a 16-17% of the patients. As the mechanisms of the viral action, are known rational therapies and preventive strategies will be possible. This work was carried out with the objective to bring up to date information on the oral epidemic  Kaposi’s sarcoma.
