With the purpose to evaluate the impact of an oral health communication program in children with light mental retardation, an educational intervention study was carried out, at Nguyen Van Troy special school of Camagüey municipality from September 2003 to September 2005. The sample was conformed by 29 children from six to 10 years-old, their parents and their educators, to which a previously oral health and educational diagnosis was perfomed, departing from itself it was designed the educational program according to the psychological age of the children taking into account the terms in health communication. The intervention was carried out during six months, in more than the 80% of the children improved the oral sanitary hygienic information and reduced the risk factors. Parents and educators thought that educational activities were beneficial, with a positive impact for all.
