MACHADO DEL RISCO, Edilberto; MOLINA LEYVA, Mailin; MORALES MENENDEZ, Maria  y  SANTOS HERRERA, Yamilet. Alteration of the pulmonary ventilation in asthmatic patients of more than 20 years of evolution. AMC [online]. 2009, vol.13, n.3, pp. 0-0. ISSN 1025-0255.

Background: In the bronchial asthma the severity of the symptoms and the loss of the pulmonary function are related directly with the time of evolution of the disease what implicates a higher risk of complications. Objective: To determine clinical-functional alterations in asthmatic patients with more than 20 years of evolution of the disease. Method: A descriptive prospective (case control) study was conducted at “Amalia Simoni” Clinical Surgical Provincial Educational Hospital, of Camagüey municipality, from January from 2005 to July 2007. Results: The obstructive spirometric pattern is the most frequent in patients with bronchial asthma of more than 20 years of evolution. Conclusions: The FEV1 and CVF behave pathological in the higher percent of patients before the bronchodilator with reversibility after the test. In the higher number of patients that don't complete the intercrisis treatment show up mixed and obstructive spirometric patterns.
