Resumen

GARCIA ALVAREZ, Pedro Julio et al. Anesthetic management of patients with Charcot-Marie-Tooth’s disease. AMC [online]. 2015, vol.19, n.6, pp. 646-653. ISSN 1025-0255.

Background: Charcot-Marie-Tooth's disease is a peripheral hereditary neuropathy that leads to muscular atrophy and loss of propioception in the affected areas. There is controversy regarding the ideal anesthetic technique for this disease. Objective: to present the anesthetic management of a patient with this disease. Clinical case: a female, twenty-eight-year-old patient that suffers from Charcot-Marie-Tooth’s disease who was operated on for a femoral fracture. Atrophy of both legs with equine foot became evident in the neurological exam. In the exam of superficial and deep sensitivity, distal hypoesthesia and apallesthesia became evident. The subarachnoid anesthetic technique was carried out. The patient presented autonomic disorders in the transoperative although no elements of dysautonomia were seen in the preoperative evaluation. Conclusions: the advantages and disadvantages of every anesthetic technique should be analyzed in the anesthetic management of patients with Charcot-Marie-Tooth's disease, depending on the type of surgery. An evaluation of the cardiovascular system should be made looking for an atrial flutter and myocardiopathies. The increased sensitivity to some anesthetic drugs should be taken into consideration.
