RODRIGUEZ PUGA, Rolando; PEREZ DIAZ, Yoánderson; RODRIGUEZ FUENTES, Tamara  y  MORALES TARAJANO, Lorena. Clinical and epidemiological characteristics of adult patients with post-COVID-19 sequelae belonging to the Camaguey municipality. Rev. cuba. hig. epidemiol. [online]. 2024, vol.61  Epub 10-Jun-2024. ISSN 1561-3003.

Introduction:

Post-COVID-19 sequelae can include a wide variety of health problems and last for weeks, months, or years.

Objective:

To characterize adult patients with post-COVID-19 sequelae from a clinical and epidemiological point of view.

Methods:

A descriptive, cross-sectional, study was carried out in the post-COVID-19 municipal consultation located in the “José Martí” Polyclinic in the city of Camaguey, during the period January-December 2021. From an object poblation of 151 patients, it was formed a sample of 123 once the inclusion and exclusion criteria were applied. The variables were analyzed: age groups, sex, Polyclinic to which it belongs, semester of consultation, comorbidities, history of decompensation, symptoms referred by systems, type of medical investigations carried out and main findings found in them.

Results:

Female patients (57.7 %) and the age group of 50-59 years (25.9 %) predominated. The 18.7 % came from the “Joaquin de Aguero” Polyclinic, while 62.6 % attended consultations in the July-December semester. The main comorbidity was arterial hypertension (36.6 %), the most representative symptom was fatigue (63.4 %), and leukopenia stood out as fundamental finding in laboratory tests (36.6 %).

Conclusions:

The highest prevalence of post-COVID-19 sequelae was observed in people in the middle ages of life, especially women, while fatigue was the most relevant manifestation. These represent characteristics to be addressed for planning strategies related to the comprehensive rehabilitation of these cases at the primary level of care.
