CORDOVA LOPEZ, Luis y BUCCINO, Mariano. Malecón Tradicional in Havana: Part IV. Study of breakwaters to reduce the wave overtopping. riha [online]. 2020, vol.41, n.3, pp. 68-82. Epub 01-Dic-2020. ISSN 1680-0338.
The results of an experimental campaign are presented by means of physical modeling of a set of alternatives for submerged and low-crested breakwaters with the objective of reducing the wave overtopping to an admissible rate in the area known as the Malecón Traditional in Havana, Cuba. The methodology followed for carrying out the experiments is described, the transmission coefficients, and the reduction efficiency of the wave height behind the breakwaters are obtained. Four breakwater alternatives are studied, showing that the variant of low-crested breakwaters with a crest elevation of +3,28 meters and a crest length of 12,00 m combined with a simple curvature wall with a crest elevation of +4,46 meters is the more effective.
