Speech therapy assistance offered in the school context is renewed in relation to the transformations that occur in the educational process as a result of social demands. The proposal aims at systematizing the theoretical-methodological bases of the conception of integral speech therapy assistance in elementary education. For this purpose, theoretical methods such as analysis-synthesis and induction-deduction were used. Pedagogical, psychological, philosophical and sociological foundations of the speech therapy assistance process are substantiated, and the principles that rule this process are specified. The principle of cross-sectional and cooperative character is given, which singles out the features that the process acquires in the pedagogical context; it regulates the actions of the educational agents from teamwork and professional networks in order to prevent, improve or eliminate the altered linguistic behavior.
