The present article is about population growth in the province of Cienfuegos, Cuba from the beginning occupation of territory to the present; that weaving the constant link with the movement population and socio-spatial processes, builds a profile of geographic and temporal changes as part of the conformation of this territory. From the methodological plurality, qualitative and quantitative methods and techniques are used to characterize the geographical distribution of the population and its changes, determined by geographical factors such as the presence of the bay, plantations and industrial sugar production. The distribution of the population initially was expansive. Then it changes to a trend where the population decides to live in concentrated and urban forms during the 20th century. This trend has been reinforced during the 21st century and that are dominant at present. This article provides key elements for the subsequent mapping of territorial policies. These territorial policies will provide a harmonious spatial organization according to the geographical distribution of the population and the use of territorial resources.
