Resumen

DAZA TORRES, Martha Constanza. Application of waste flowers compost in acid soils cultivated with corn (Zea mays). Rev Cie Téc Agr [online]. 2014, vol.23, n.3, pp. 22-30. ISSN 2071-0054.

Tropical acid soils are characterized by its low fertility and fixed minerals presence that limits nutrient availability. The present study was conducted with the purpose of studying residue flower compost application in some Oxisol chemical properties from Colombian eastern plain lands and in corn (Zea mays) crop agronomic variables. The experiment consisted in seven treatments: control, compost, lime, inorganic fertilizer, compost + lime, compost + inorganic fertilizer and compost + inorganic fertilizer + lime with three repetitions in a randomized block design where soil chemical properties evaluated were pH, exchangeable acidity, organic matter, available phosphorus and C/N and C/P ratios, at the beginning, the fifth and the tenth week after planting. Also, some crop agronomic properties were evaluated like plant height, dry mass weight and foliar nutrient content. Results showed that with the combination of compost with inorganic fertilizer, it is possible to obtain better soil conditions for corn crop development, although in the tenth week soil tended to its initial state, indicating the necessity of periodic applications of amendments to support its productivity.
