The current article shows a strategy for comprehending the poems included on Marti’s free verses collection. This strategy is shown through the analysis of the poem Yugo y estrella, taking into account that the comprehension, analysis, and paragraph building process take place as functional components of the mother tongue. All of these components are interrelated in a language and literature lesson with a cognitive, communicative and sociocultural approach. This can be implemented on different teaching levels, such as: High School and College students.
