Culture is an element inherent to each member of society and forms its vital expression from which it cannot be evaded. Within this, the cinema includes the dynamic realization of all the arts, being a cultural phenomenon that contains in itself creative expressions of society. This article makes a brief tour of the different stages of Ecuadorian cinema, where ethnographic documentary film stands out. It also analyzes the challenges facing the New Ecuadorian Cinema in order to represent the complex plurinational and ethnoracial character of the country.
