School desertion is a problem of interest for Social Sciences, in particular for Education Sciences, in which the pedagogical work of teachers and managers is essential to counteract it. The objective of this research is to diagnose the current situation of this topic in the Fiscal Educational Unit "Abdón Calderón" and for this a research methodology based on the qualitative approach was used, which allowed revealing the current situation of school dropout in the educational context mentioned above. The selected sample is made up of 100 high school students, 20 teachers and 7 directors of the aforementioned institution, who contributed very personal perspectives on the subject in question. The results obtained constitute the starting point to develop alternatives for educational and pedagogical work that allow reversing the situation in order to achieve a greater permanence of adolescents in the Ecuadorian educational system with the consequent effect in guaranteeing a continuity of studies towards higher levels. superiors.
