Introduction:
The work-related stress is increasingly presented among the nursing professionals with repercussion in their physical and mental health, which brings about the burnout syndrome or professional weakening.
Objective:
To identify the magnitude of physical exhaustion in the professionals of adults intensive nursing and its influence in the patient security.
Methods:
A descriptive and cross-sectional study of 32 nursing professionals, belonging to the Adults Intensive Cares Service of Octavio de la Concepción y de la Pedraja Teaching General Hospital, in Baracoa, Guantánamo, was carried out from January to April, 2019. A survey on the base of the Maslach Burnout Inventory questionnaire was carried out and the nursing practical activities were evaluated.
Results:
Physical exhaustion was found in 75.0 % the professionals, 56.2 % of them with high levels and a prevalence of the female sex (84.3 %).
Conclusions:
In the Adults Intensive Cares Unit the existence of psychological-related risks was confirmed, which can generate negative effects in the nursing professionals and in the patient security.
