ALFONSO-FIGUEROA, Lianet; FIGUEROA-PEREZ, Loanys  y  GARCIA-BRETO, Lázara. Infertility, a view from Psychology and Sexology. Rev Ciencias Médicas [online]. 2023, vol.27, n.6  Epub 01-Nov-2023. ISSN 1561-3194.

Introduction:

Infertility is a contemporary and complex health problem that affects many couples. This problem is becoming more and more important worldwide. This condition can affect different areas of the couple's life, which can generate a psychological and emotional impact, in addition to producing a negative effect on the sexual life of couples.

Objective:

to systematize updated information on infertility and its psychological and sexual impact on couples.

Methods:

a bibliographic review was carried out using national and international sources in electronic format. The SciELO, Dialnet, PubMed and Google Scholar databases were consulted. A total of 30 references were used, taking into account articles published during the last five years. Theoretical, historical-logical, analysis-synthesis and inductive-deductive methods were used to analyze the various approaches to the subject.

Development:

the variety of sensations and feelings about fertility problems and the negative effects it produces on sexual function and intercourse differ in both men and women. These inequalities are determined by gender conditioning.

Conclusions:

addressing infertility and its biological, psychological and social repercussions contributes to greater psychological well-being in order to better face the demands and challenges caused by this health problem. It is necessary to continue to deepen the development of scientific knowledge regarding infertility and its psychological and sexual impact at the individual and couple level.
