It was carried out a prospective descriptive study, between February and April of 2007 in the Service of Ophthalmology of the Dr. Salvador Allende Hospital, with the objective of to characterize, from the clinical and epidemiological points of view, to the operated patients of Cataract for the Blumenthal's technique. The variable age, sex, color of the skin, systemic illnesses and associated oculars, type of Cataract, preoperative visual acuity and immediate postoperative complications were studied. With an universe of study of 274 eyes and a sample 232 eyes, after having applied the inclusion and exclusion approaches, the following results were obtained: Prevalence of the age group between 60 and 69 years (76,2%), of the masculine sex (54,7%) and of the non white color of the skin (58,6%). The Arterial Hypertension was the most frequent associate systemic illness (27,3%), as well as the Senile Cataract (76,2%) and the preoperative visual acuity of bill fingers (36,6%). As the immediate postoperative complications, the Corneal Edema, the Grooved Keratopathy and the Opacity of Later Capsule met with the biggest frequency (6,8%), from the ocular point of view and the Arterial Hypertension (3,4%), from the systemic one. Our results behaved from a similar way to that reported in other studies referred to the topic.
