The teaching-learning of research with dedication and commitment to theory and practice brings a number of advantages to law students. Currently, the research and project formulation bases in higher education students in the field of law are totally necessary to strengthen the principles of formative and properly scientific research. This article presents the results of research carried out with the participation of students as part of their training to analyze the need for the Law on Arbitration and Mediation to establish in detail the causes that can be subject to mediation; it is of a quantitative-qualitative nature, documentary, correlational, field, and descriptive research; It was necessary to use the survey and the interview, which showed that mediators, lawyers and citizens in general are not clear about which cases can be subject to mediation, which sometimes leads to individuals not going to mediation because they are not aware that they can solve their conflict in an alternative way. The results validate the importance of student participation in university research.
