On October 10, 2020, the 40th anniversary of the founding of the musical group Ismaelillo was commemorated. Project created in the province of Cienfuegos by the primary teacher Gonzalo Bermúdez, under the Marti precept of faith in human improvement. Behavioral problems, lack of motivation for studies, were some of the questions that the teacher raised as premises to be reversed in his students. Ten generations of children, adolescents and young people have participated in this experience that has transcended the borders of the country. Tours, awards, as well as the authoritative opinion of renowned musicians, endorse the significance of a project that made an epoch and showed the world the value of an unparalleled pedagogical experience. This study shows at first the convergences -although distant in time- that are evidenced between José Martí and his work Ismaelillo and the teacher Gonzalo and his group Ismaelillo. In a second moment, an interview with the creator of the project is exposed with the aim of showing how love for and for his students was the seed planted in a field where only the will to do and to create was needed.
