Coastal community environmental education is an urgent process that requires the contribution of its inhabitants from a conscious participation in the search for solutions to their environmental problems. This requires an educational intervention that is based on participatory action research that stimulates the necessary change based on knowledge of the community's social structure. This research bases the studies of social networks as a powerful instrument of participatory action research in the process of community environmental education based on the sustainable development of the coastal zone through a case study in Cienfuegos, Cuba. The work offers reflections on the role of the nodes within the social network as socializers of the environmental culture and transformers of their reality in the educational processes that take place in the coastal community spaces.
