The objective of this article is to establish general aspects related to scientific research and technological research and innovation in Higher University Institutes. The methodology that was used is of a qualitative nature, which was aimed at searching for the production of the academic community on the research topic in indexed scientific publications. The results revealed that there are several ways of conceiving research, but nevertheless the type of technological research and innovation must prevail, related to creation, adaptation and technological innovation. It was evidenced that some research works classified as scientific are nothing more than technological applications or adaptations related to innovation and that should be exploited in the field of patents or... In relation to scientific production and technology transfer, it is the scientific potential of the institution, the educational community and the role of the relationship with society are important. It is concluded that there is a need not only to search for publications in reports or summaries of events, but also that the results of technological research can achieve publications that generate a quality impact and that technology transfer forces us to respond creatively, looking for elements where we can insert them for the benefit of society.
