Resumen

FERNANDEZ TOLEDO, Elvio. Evaluative methodological guidelines for education at work on communication with ventilated children. Rev EDUMECENTRO [online]. 2014, vol.6, n.2, pp. 80-93. ISSN 2077-2874.

Background: during their training, nursing students do not receive specific instruction in communication with mechanically ventilated children, through the nursing care process. Objective: developing evaluative methodological guidelines for education at work on communication with ventilated children. Methods: a cross-sectional descriptive study was conducted at the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit of the Jose Luis Miranda University Hospital during the academic year 2012-2013. The sample consisted of students in the fourth year of the degree course and from the Verticalization in Intensive Care and Emergency. A documentary analysis of the syllabi was conducted, as well as a literature review on the subject and a participating observation. Expert judgment was used to evaluate the proposal. Results: it was found that the Communication issue was not intended for students to develop theoretical and practical skills in communicating with ventilated children, and that the teachers did not have a tool to assess their knowledge about the influence of different indicators in the deterioration of communication. Therefore, evaluative methodological guidelines were developed for application in education at work. Conclusions: the proposed guidelines have instructive elements for the development of nursing teaching activities at Pediatric and Neonatal Intensive Care Units, as they compiled and organized a vast area of knowledge in communication, and follow the path of the Nursing Care Process as a specific scientific method in this profession.
