Resumen

ALFONSO HIDALGO, Anayda  y  PEREZ OBREGON, Blanca Rosa. Marti´s glance on tobacco consumption. EDUMECENTRO [online]. 2016, vol.8, suppl.2, pp. 20-31. ISSN 2077-2874.

Background: novel observations on tobacco consumption are evidenced in José Marti's work, for his time. Objective: to analyze José Marti's considerations about tobacco consumption in his time and the ethical-preventive links of his thought in relation to the topic. Methods: it was carried out a documental investigation whose study object was José Marti's Complete Works, in Villa Clara University of Medical Sciences, during 2015. Theoretical methods were used: analysis-synthesis, induction-deduction and historical-logical; and empiric ones: the analysis of José Marti's texts related to tobacco consumption. Results: Martí evidences the damage of tobacco consumption in several of his texts, independently of the way it´s consumed and the causal relationship with cancer onset, which asserts the validity of his thought. Conclusions: José Martí was ahead of his time in his considerations on tobacco consumption and he talked about prevention, as the fundamental action to carry out for health preservation.
