Form for citizenship involves educating for the performance of obligations and human rights, civic and socio-political ones, which requires teachers to appropriate sufficient theoretical and conceptual knowledge to recognize and value the social function of educational work and they can thus direct their educational efforts with greater clarity and certainty to the development of personal and social skills of their students, which later become civic and ethical skills with which they act and participate in the democratic life of the nation. Therefore, this article offers theoretical elements about civic education in order to strengthen the role of universities according to the demands of the current context of Cuban society.
