Background: to coordinate and educate the school group and promote its development requires the carrying out of the educational diagnosis and its corresponding follow-up. This is a complex process and demands an integrative approach from which intervention strategies can be derived. Objective: to show the pertinence of the educational diagnosis and the intervention strategy to promote the development of the school group. Methods: a descriptive research work was carried out at Villa Clara University of Medical Sciences, during the 2015-2016 academic year. Methods of the theoretical level were used, among them: analysis-synthesis, induction-deduction and historical-logical, and within the empirical ones: participant observation and survey in questionnaire form to students and an interview to professors. Triangulation of information was used to determine the strengths and weaknesses of the group. Results: the educational diagnosis of group 1 of the 2nd year of Medicine was carried out, in which its characteristics, strengths and weaknesses were determined, the development prognosis was proposed and from it an intervention strategy was developed and applied, whose actions took into account objectives, dimensions of the educational work and the weaknesses of the group. Conclusions: from the educational diagnosis and the intervention strategy it was determined that the group progresses and develops. The values and dimensions of educational work were reinforced in students.
