Resumen

Background:

the COVID-19 pandemic is an unprecedented challenge for science and society, it has required rapid and diverse responses from health systems, which need to reorganize in all its components to face it.

Objective:

to determine knowledge level about COVID-19 in primary healthcare physicians of the Teaching North Polyclinic of the Placetas municipality, Villa Clara province, Cuba, in 2020.

Methods:

a cross-sectional descriptive investigation was carried out in which theoretical methods were used: analytical-synthetic and system approach; empirical ones: questionnaire and the mathematical one to determine the absolute and relative values.

Results:

the majority of the doctors were specialists in Comprehensive General Medicine, with an age range from 24 to 35 years, female sex with less than 5 years of professional experience and the absence of managerial positions predominated. The method of obtaining combined knowledge (self-preparation and teaching) prevailed, the indicator with the best qualification was prevention, and the most difficult was the concepts associated with the disease with an average level of general knowledge.

Conclusions:

the primary health care physicians of the Teaching North Polyclinic had an average level of knowledge about COVID-19, they presented greater difficulties in relation to the concepts and a better mastery regarding the prevention and epidemiological aspects of the disease.
