The research, development and innovation policy of the universities must be oriented to the solution of problems of the development of the society where it is inserted, for this the definition of the priority lines of research plays a seminal role, since they constitute the nucleus around of which the substantive processes must be articulated, with all the scientific potential that they have. Achieving the above is only possible through a participatory process where all areas of knowledge, theoretical-methodological approaches, history, culture and results obtained by the university will be taken into account. Therefore, the objective of this article is to perfect the priority lines of research at the University of Pinar del Río so that at the same time, social recognition and the quality of the contributions that are made from it are raised, to contribute to promote the sustainable development of the province and the country. As a result, the complexity of the process is concluded, due to the diversity of interests, which is why a procedure has been applied whose main method is to carry out participatory workshops to raise awareness, learn, analyze and discuss, up to reformulating the lines of university research.
