UNCAL GARCIA, Jesús Abundio  y  HERNANDEZ MORENO, Esther M.. Confrontation with counterrevolutionary banditry in Pinar del Río. First steps towards victory. Universidad y Sociedad [online]. 2020, vol.12, n.6, pp. 428-436.  Epub 02-Dic-2020. ISSN 2218-3620.

The past that accompanies the Cuban Revolution deserves greater attention among analysts. Both sociologists and historians have to search in this object for the foundations of the society that they aspire to build and the answers to many of the neoliberal recipes. The regional perspective, in addition to broadening the scale of analysis, enriches the memory of the national state on little-discussed issues such as the confrontation with counterrevolutionary banditry in the province of Pinar del Río. The present article aims to argue the confrontation with counterrevolutionary banditry in the province of Pinar del Río between the years 1959 - 1961. In order to fulfill this objective, theoretical methods were used such as: historical - logical, analysis - synthesis, inductive - deductive, and as qualitative methods: document analysis, unstructured interview and triangulation of information. The investigated topic is pertinent because it allows to argue a period of regional history, in a subject where the previous investigative work has presented shortcomings. In the theoretical order, it is part of the regional history studies of a military theme, based on the epistemological analyzes of the regional perspective and military history. The results corroborated that the voluntary participation of the population organized by the military leadership of the territory, together with the measures taken by the Revolutionary Government, as well as the participation of the Commander in Chief Fidel Castro, made possible the expansion of the confrontation with counterrevolutionary banditry and the defeat of the largest number of counterrevolutionary gangs in the province of Pinar del Río.

Palabras clave : Confrontation; counterrevolutionary banditry; enlargement; voluntary participation.
