This article delves into the knowledge about two fundamental skills in a person's life: arguing and reaching consensus; especially for the decisions made in the classroom. In this field of action, the purpose is to analyze the perceptions of the teacher in training with respect to the skills of arguing and agreeing, and its impact on decision-making from a collaborative approach. The research has a descriptive design, with a mixed methodology. An intentional non-probability sampling of 50 pedagogy students from a Chilean university was used. Two instruments were used to collect the information: a questionnaire and a discussion group. The analysis of the data made it possible to show that, for future teachers, argumentation constitutes a precondition and obligatory for consensus and for collaborative decision-making. As a whole, this is related to the capacity for the spontaneous expression of ideas, with an effective use of language and with efficient communication. In the classroom, both argumentation and consensus require an open mind of group participants and a disposition towards empathetic listening and respectful deliberation.
