LEIVA HOYO, Lázaro Julio; AJANG DIAZ, Fadil Ajak; GARCIA SARDUY, Yulia  y  MARTINEZ MASSIP, Annia. Gender inequalities of the Iyaloshas in the Osha-ifà religious complex in north COUNTY. Universidad y Sociedad [online]. 2021, vol.13, n.4, pp. 88-96.  Epub 02-Ago-2021. ISSN 2218-3620.

The Osha-Ifà religious complex has presented in the last three decades discriminatory demonstrations against the iyaloshas, although the history of this religion highlights women as protagonists and leaders who promoted, enhanced and gave prestige to its development. This article aims to analyze the gender inequalities of the iyaloshas in the Osha-Ifà religious complex in the North County Popular Council of Santa Clara. The research result contributes to the systematization of this issue, and to vindicate the religious transcendence of important local female figures. The North County Popular Council of the municipality of Santa Clara in Cuba is selected because important iyaloshas, as well as customs and traditions of African origin, are found there; however, very little is known about the religious history in North County. The sample is 42 babaloshas and iyaloshas by intentional sampling, because they present a great experience, hard religious practice, as well as a high recognition. The applied research techniques are participant observation, in-depth interviewing, life history, and content analysis. The conclusion is that gender inequalities in this religion are a symbolic reflection of today's patriarchal society, which excludes arguments of tradition and religious history where female emancipation prevails.
