Resumen

ESTRADA-PINEDA, Cristina; BRINGAS MOLLEDA, Carolina; ARRIAGA TAPIA, Miriam Yolanda  y  RODRIGUEZ DIAZ, Francisco Javier. Men who exercise violence: gender discourse. Universidad y Sociedad [online]. 2023, vol.15, n.1  Epub 27-Feb-2023. ISSN 2218-3620.

The international trend is to modify traditional gender discourse and roles as a strategy for preventing violence in intimate relationships. This article describes a qualitative study involving narrative analysis of the autobiographies of men sentenced for intimate partner violence in Spain. The aim is to use the discursive reconstruction of these men to identify and understand their representation of female members of their families. Subjects were found to describe women in their roles in the family from the perspective of traditional gender roles. In their minds, independent women with professional careers or personal life projects tended to feature less.

Palabras clave : Partner violence; Violence towards women; Battering men; Narrations; Qualitative research.
