VEJO-MORA, Leonidas Israel; ALCHUNDIA, Ivette Martillo; NAREA-JEREZ, Estefanie  y  PINOS-MEDRANO, Viviana Fabiola. Participation and social control: its impact on public decision-making in Ecuador. Universidad y Sociedad [online]. 2023, vol.15, n.2, pp. 161-168.  Epub 30-Abr-2023. ISSN 2218-3620.

In recent years, citizen participation has taken on great importance in South American countries, with Ecuador being one of the regions that promoted such a model, booming since the proclamation of Correismo. The objective of this work is focused on analyzing the reality of participation and social control, and its impact on public decision-making in Ecuador. In the methodological aspect, a documentary exploration of a total of 60 articles was carried out, selecting the 20 main ones published from 2018 to 2023, including doctoral theses, master's theses and scientific articles. As results, it is possible evidence that in Ecuador during the period of "The Citizen Revolution", "citizen participation" increased remarkably, however, after further analysis, this whole process actually limited the creation of social organizations and "limited the expression of citizenship. As a discussion, it is mentioned that the "Citizen Revolution" contributed to community participation, but, on the other hand, it limited the expression of society and the creation of social entities. Among the main conclusions are that there was a "dominance of the annex" of the media, and an image of "revolution" was projected, and that this was at risk by the opponents.

Palabras clave : Ecuador; Public decisions; Community participation.
