Resumen

PARICAHUA-PERALTA, Jimmy Nelson et al. Neuroscience literacy of Peruvian Amazonian students in Higher University Education. Universidad y Sociedad [online]. 2023, vol.15, n.4, pp. 260-267.  Epub 30-Ago-2023. ISSN 2218-3620.

Neuroscience in education is a field of study that seeks to understand how the human brain learns and processes information, with the aim of applying this knowledge in educational practice and improving teaching and learning processes. The objective of this research was to describe and compare the neuroscience literacy of Amazonian university students in the Education professional career. A quantitative approach and a non-experimental descriptive-comparative design were used. The sample consisted of 214 participants who were administered a multiple-choice questionnaire that assessed their knowledge of three key aspects of neuroscience: brain plasticity, mirror neurons, and emotions. Preliminary results revealed that the level of neuroscience literacy was low among students. Additionally, through the use of the Chi-square test, it was found that the frequency of neuroscience literacy varied among the three specialties, which could be due to the inclusion of neuroscience-related content in the curriculum of each program. In particular, slightly more favorable results were observed in the Early and Special Education specialty. It was concluded that neuroscience literacy in the specialties of the Education professional career is at a low level. Therefore, it is necessary to include topics related to neuroscience in the curriculum of all specialties. Additionally, the fundamental concepts of neuroscience should be adequately and comprehensively addressed.
