The objective of this research is to analyze the use of information and communication technologies in the development of metacognitive skills of high school students in the city of Milagro, in fiscal educational institutions. It corresponds to a descriptive study with a quantitative approach in which a survey was applied to 383 students in a random sample. The results showed that students make use of ICT for learning and digital learning tools and methods that allow them to develop metacognitive skills such as planning, organization, monitoring, self-assessment, as well as autonomy in learning; however they identify disadvantages in its use associated with attentional, technical aspects and the ignorance and lack of mastery of the educators of applications, platforms and software such as Zoom, WhatsApp and the virtual learning environment.
