OCHOA MONTIEL, Fabiola Judith. Moral autonomy education at preschool. Varona [online]. 2018, n.66 ISSN 1992-8238.
Education as an ongoing process throughout the life of human beings, and as moral knowledge constituted by values, principles and convictions, enables the deployment of human potential. Autonomy, as a necessary, leading, and integral part of the full development of the construction process of personality, is the purpose of education since it allows human beings achieving self-governing, making their own decisions, and taking responsibility of the consequences of their actions as social beings. In this regard, the construction of moral autonomy is a feasible process started from the early years of schooling. And as a process, moral autonomy is gradual, systematic, and cumulative; so it needs to be conscious, planned, directed, and organized from a socializing agency as the school. The establishment of dialogic, emotional, and motivational spaces in the classroom allows children achieving and developing increasingly autonomous moral judgments as well as advancing their processes of moral understanding through the practice of the principles of alterity, cooperation, and reciprocity. Thus, it is extremely urgent, given the social custom of schooling, to educate moral autonomous subjects from an early age in order to contribute to a more just and peaceful society.
