Reading is one of the main ways of access to culture, contributes to a greater development of communication skills, mastery of vocabulary and spelling; exerts great influence on feelings, emotion, imagination and all psychic processes. Books are a way to acquire, renew and enrich knowledge. The vertiginous growth and the volume of information of the contemporary world that is obtained with the emergence of new technologies have not diminished their attractiveness. There are no indicators to measure who is a reader and who is not, but we speak of a “reader” when there is a constant relationship with books, when there is a vice of reading. However, it is not always achieved in many children, young and adults. The objective of this work is to present some opinions of specialists on the act of reading and the need for interest in reading. It argues numerous reasons with respect to the importance given to reading and the need to achieve a strong motivation for this activity in the individual from the earliest ages and proposed actions to awaken interest in reading, that could be done in schools.
