Resumen

ORTEGA-VIERA, Lianys et al. Evaluation of the mass transfer processes that occur during the purification of biogas using membranes. RTQ [online]. 2018, vol.38, n.3, pp. 473-485. ISSN 2224-6185.

The use of membranes formed from glassy materials and natural zeolite in the removal of H 2 S(g) is a method showing success on a laboratory scale, thus the aim of this study is to evaluate the mass transfer process that occurs during the biogas purification using glass and Cuban natural zeolite membranes in order to comply with the current reference standard. The results indicate that in the glass membranes the mass transfer coefficient of H 2 S (g) in the mixture CH 4 (g) and CO 2 (g), varies from 3,56 . 10 -9 kmol/m 2. s to 8,27 . 10 -9 kmol/m 2. s and in the Cuban natural zeolite membranes is between 3,29 . 10 -9 kmol/m 2. s and 3,34 . 10 -9 kmol/m 2. s. In addition, it is known by calculating the Biot number that the purification of biogas using both types of membranes is controlled by the mass transfer in the outer layer of the particle.

Palabras clave : mass transfer coefficients; vitreous and Cuban natural zeolite membranes; Biot number; hydrogen sulfide.
