Resumen

ATENCIO SARIOL, Gustavo  y  LUCAS, Alberto. Yogaterapia de la hipertensión arterial esencial. Rev Cubana Invest Bioméd [online]. 1996, vol.15, n.1, pp. 0-0. ISSN 1561-3011.

The practical usefulness of a protocol of specific yoga training, is assessed as a complement for the treatment of uncontrolled essential arterial hypertension, in 18 patients coming from a family physician's office, at Playa municipe. During 40 weeks they practiced, three times weekly, simple hatha yoga exercises, in combination with behavioural based group psicology and yoga intended for habits changing, and principles of attraction and health education. A significant decrease of arterial pressure, of blood cholesterol levels, and of urine norepinephrine, was achieved. Generally, the dose of hypotensive drugs also decreased. It is concluded, within the limits of this small study, that yoga may be beneficial as a coadyuvant in managing hypertensive patients.

Palabras clave : YOGA; RELAXATION TECHNIQUES; EXERCISE THERAPY; HYPERTENSION [therapy]; PHYSICIANS, FAMILY; CHOLESTEROL [blood]; NOREPINEPHRINE [urine]; BLOOD PRESSURE.
