Resumen

GONZALEZ, Félix  y  FERNANDEZ-BRITTO, José E. Evaluación de una dieta de muy bajas calorías en obesos asociados con hipertensión, diabetes o dislipidemias. Rev Cubana Invest Bioméd [online]. 2000, vol.19, n.2, pp. 128-136. ISSN 1561-3011.

33 obese patients with a body mass index over 30 kg/m2 were studied and divided into 4 subgroups: l. obese without complications, 2. obese with type 2 diabetes mellitus, 3. obese with arterial hypertension, and 4. obese with dislipidemia. All the patients underwent a complete and rigorous medical examination at the beginning and every week during 8 weeks. Weight, height, body mass index, and abdominal and hips circumference were determined and arterial pressure was measured. The following laboratory tests were made at the beginning and at the end of the experience: haematocrit, globular sedimentation speed, leukocytes counting, uric acid, creatinine, total proteins, albumin, fibrinogen, triiodide, tetraiodothyronine and tyrotropine. Glycosilated haemoglobin was determined at the begining and on the 8th week, whereas fasting glycaemia was weekly determined. The other 3 groups underwent the glucose tolerance test and the basal insulinemia before the oral administration of 75 g of glucose and 120 minutes after this procedure. Serum cholesterol levels, triglycerides, HDLc and LDLc were determined every week among patients with dyslipidemias and on the 4th and 8th week in patients from the other 3 groups. The t of Student test was applied for the intergroup and intragroup analysis, as well as Pearson's correlation. It was obtained an average weight reduction of 12 kg. It was observed a decrease of the readings of arterial pressure. 87,5% of the hypertensive patients stopped taking drugs to reduce arterial pressure. Serum glucose levels, cholesterol, HDLc, LDLc and triglycerides showed a considerable decrease. It was concluded that Cambridge's diet is an effective and efficient method for reducing weight, the readings of arterial pressure, the serum glucose levels, total cholesterol, HDLc and LDLc
