Resumen

FALCON VILAU, Leonel et al. Aterosclerosis y muerte súbita: impacto patomorfológico y morfométrico de la hipertensión en las arterias coronarias. Rev Cubana Invest Bioméd [online]. 2000, vol.19, n.2, pp. 137-143. ISSN 1561-3011.

Of a total of 237 necropsis of patients who died from sudden death according to the criteria of the World Health Organization (WHO) at the "Dr. Carlos J. Finlay" Teaching Hospital, 73 patients over l5 (30,8%), 44 males and 29 females, suffered from arterial hypertension. 113 patients (68 males and 45 females) died from non cardiovascular causes and without atherogenic risk factors. As they showed a very low level of atherosclerosis, they were used as a control group. The main right, anterior descending and left circumflex epicardial coronary arteries were studied. The atherometric system was applied for the pathomorphological and morphometric characterization of the types of atherosclerotic lesions. Of those who died with arterial hypertension, 73.97% died before arriving to hospital. Of them 93,15% had cardiomegaly with an average weight of the hearts over 400 g. The fibrous and severe plaques were the most frequently found in this group. The total of the intimal surface occupied by the set of atherosclerotic lesions and the indexes of obstruction and stenosis increased according to age in patients with arterial hypertension

Palabras clave : DEATH, SUDDEN; HYPERTENSION [mortality]; CORONARY ATHEROSCLEROSIS [pathology].
