SARDUY NAPOLES, Miguel R.; MARTINEZ CHANG, Isis M.  y  VASALLO, Raúl. Lipids, surgical menopause and estrogen therapy. Rev Cubana Invest Bioméd [online]. 2006, vol.25, n.1, pp. 0-0. ISSN 1561-3011.

50 patients over 42 who had undergone total or subtotal hysterectomy with doble adnexectomy, that had nerver been under estrogen treatment, that were no smokers and had no relative or absolute contraindication to take oral estrogens were selected. Hot flashes, sweatings, vaginal dryness, and reduction of libido, among others, predominated in them. They were clinically examined and whole lipid profile was performed. Conjugated estrogens were indicated. As a result, it was observed an improvement of the symptoms, and the number of women with hypercholesterolemia and triglyceridemia decreased. It was concluded that the indication of surgical ablation of the ovaries is not necessary and that in most of the cases it is not justifiable.

Palabras clave : Lipids; surgical menopause; estrogen replacement therapy.
