A descriptive study is made on the basis of respiratory function tests applied to smoker and non-smoker subjects with the objective of functionally identifying the respiratory condition of 174 workers. Smoking habit and environmental tobacco smoke are previously identified as relevant risk factors in «Orlando Nodarse» cigarette factory. The results show that all the variables of the respiratory function tests generally yield anomalous values in a great number of subjects whereas restrictive respiratory disorders are predominant. No significant differences are found between smokers and non-smokers which brought about the existance of anomalous values in each of the variables of the respiratory function tests. Recommendations for a change of attitude and an improvement in the environmental working conditions of the factory are made
