An observational descriptive study was conducted in the population of older adults from a rural community of “Piar” municipality, in Venezuela , from March to April, 2004, aimed at knowing the different epidemiological aspects related to inmobility. Variables such as age, sex, risk factors, causes, complications and the classification of the mobility alterations, were analized. These data were shown in tables. As a result, it was observed that 56 of the studied patients presented mobility alterations and that males were the most affected. The main risk factors were the setting where the older adults live and arthropathies that affected 42 and 38 patients, respectively. 53.6 % of the mobility alterations were mild. The musculoskeletal affections (44.7 %) were the fundamental causes of inmobility, whereas the main complications were related to the osteomyoarticular system and to the psychosocial sphere.
