In the Cuban oil industry, it is necessary to adopt new alternatives and technologies to prevent pollution and minimize the environmental impact derived from this activity. Some of the most severe effects include those produced by the actions of oil extraction and management. One of the most concerning issues is the generation of a large volume of petroleum solid waste (contaminants), especially drill cuttings coated with diesel fuel-based fluids or sludge, since their treatment and final disposal are difficult.
