In the current time, the globalized society advances in vertiginous way is governed by a high competitiveness and a complex technology, aspects in constant transformation. In this context, it is not strange that the success is conditioned by the quality of the product or service, for the talent of people, for the interrelation ability with the environment, and for the innovation capacity and the individuals' creativity, all that which is translated in the term professional competences with this reality. The present article has the objective of meditating about the importance of the formation of competences in the educational of basic and high education. We follow a methodological strategy starting from the bibliographical revision and the employment of empiric methods as theoretical technical, including the application of interviews and questionnaires to educational of those levels. The main result consists on the analysis of theories, conceptions and definitions, as well as the identification of the essential competences that the professional should behave.
