CUESTA GUERRA, Ricardo Enrique  y  PACHECO CONSUEGRA, Yaima. Oral diseases in patients with type II diabetes mellitus. Conrado [online]. 2021, vol.17, n.79, pp. 328-333.  Epub 02-Abr-2021. ISSN 1990-8644.

The Periodontal Disease represents a pathology of high incidence and repercussion in chronic noncommunicable diseases such as Diabetes Mellitus. A dental study was carried out in patients with diabetes mellitus type II (DM II) of the Guano Health Center, Chimborazo province between January and April 2017 to determine pathologies of the oral cavity, especially Periodontal Disease (gingivitis and periodontitis). The sample consisted of 49 patients with the aforementioned diagnosis of type II DM, corresponding 27 (55%) to women and 22 (45%) to men. In 100%, dental caries was diagnosed. There was a predominance of periodontitis (77.5%), followed by gingivitis (75.5%) between the ages of 22 and 62 years, and among other pathologies of the mouth, xerostomia was found in 31 patients (63.2%) oral candidiasis in 8 (16.3%), and taste alterations in 17 (34.6%). In relation to age, gingivitis predominated between 38-53 years, while periodontitis occurred at ages 46-53 years. Xerostomia, taste alterations and candidiasis were present in the older age groups. The value of the diagnosis of oral diseases in patients with DM II is emphasized and it is recommended that research and treatment protocols be implemented as an expression of prevention and promotion actions in oral health.
