The purpose of the research was to determine the characteristics of citizenship and civic education in teachers and students of first year of secondary school of regular basic education from a review of the state of the art. It was based on a review of the problem that involves students from their context of situation and family and academic training. The analysis facilitated that it is essential to achieve democratic coexistence, respect for social values, personal and social development within a complex society to achieve a citizen with a profile that reflects behaviors and social attitudes appropriate to modern times. For this reason, it was considered to understand the features of citizen and civic education that facilitate good coexistence and democratic development within a pluralistic society corresponds to principles and values, identity, citizen education, rights and duties. For this, the values ​​that involve training such as responsibility, equity and respect for the human person within an environment and spaces of harmony were taken.
