The curricular design of the most recent curricula of the career of journalism in Cuba from 2007 to date is analyzed, taking as a case study the University of Havana, the guiding center of the university education of this specialty in the country.

The review of scientific literature integrates international and national references around the theory of university education, distinguishes the fundamental debates that assist the academic field of communication in relation to the professional training of journalists and allows to propose a set of categories of analysis related to the design and curriculum implementation: professional profile, organizational structure, relevance and teaching management.

During the last decade, the training of journalists in Cuba has experienced a significant institutional development from the increase of teaching departments in different universities, the increase in enrollment and the strengthening of the cloisters. In this period the fourth and fifth generation of Study Plans (D and E) were designed and implemented, and with this, the transformation of curricular conceptions, the integration between research, teaching and labor components, as well as the extension of the professional profile.

The training curriculum of Cuban journalists maintains a humanistic and political definition of the profession, recognizes among its foundations the need for theory and history, defines as its main problem the information of society and discreetly enhances technological change. For this, from the organizational perspective establishes the entry through examinations of additional requirements, defines the labor practice as an integrating general discipline, institutes the thesis research as a study completion exercise, expands the elective-elective curriculum and facilitates interdisciplinary integration with the Sciences of the Communication and the Sciences of the Information.
