Resumen

SAINZ MENENDEZ, Benito A.. Considerations on the teaching strategy for the acquisition of competences in the field of thoracic surgery: the debate is open. Rev Cubana Cir [online]. 2008, vol.47, n.4, pp. 0-0. ISSN 1561-2945.

Starting from the historical development of thoracic surgery, from its areas of competence, training programs and approach, and from the international acceptance of this specialty, it was analyzed the need to incorporate it in our country as a subspecialty of the Surgery field: General Thoracic Surgery or Non-cardiovascular Thoracic Surgery, whose content is impossible to be taught during the time alloted to the General Surgery subject, where it is included. The medical university should control the acquisition of these higly complex contents by means of some of the approved academic figures of postgraduate education, which is still a weakness of our training system for specialists.

Palabras clave : General or non-cardiovascular thoracic surgery; postgraduate education.
