CARDENAS, Beatriz Zumalacárregui-de y FERRER-SERRANO, Cándida. Physicochemical characterization of leaves, seeds and vegetable oil of Moringa oleifera ecotype Plain. Rev Cub Quim [online]. 2022, vol.34, n.2, pp. 227-241. Epub 14-Jun-2022. ISSN 2224-5421.
Moringa oleifera is a plant with several biological activities and therapeutic properties, with a high content of vitamins, minerals and phytochemicals such as vanillin, omega fatty acids, carotenoids, ascorbates, tocopherols, β-sitosterol, octacosanoic acid, moringin, moringinin and important phytoestrogens. The objective of this work is to determine and quantify the content of total polyphenols, flavonoids of hydroalcoholic extracts of leaves and some physiochemistry properties of seeds, shells and extracted vegetable oil of M. oleifera, Plain ecotype from India and acclimatized in Cuba. Qualitative and quantitative physiochemical, spectrophotometric, and chromatographic methods are employed. The results obtained showed that this species has tannins, polyphenols, flavonoids in similar quantities like other ecotypes acclimatized in Cuba, and the vegetable oil obtained is of good quality comparable with different ecotypes from other countries.
