ABSTRACT The influence of micro-structural heterogeneities in materials processing is a vital issue, which explains the need to model equivalent statistically virtual materials to the micro-structure considered, and connect this description with a numerical method such as Finite Elements Methods (FEM) or Discrete Element Method (DEM). The modeling is based on the use of advancing front method for the generation of spherical particles and Laguerre tessellations, allowing an approximation of the shape and size of the material grains. The advancing front method ensures statistical data such as the size of the grains. An example of modeling the microstructure of rocks is presented.
