Resumen

In the context of the celebrations for the centennial of the Cordoba Reform, this article points to the most outstanding of the trajectory that has generally followed the evolution of university extension in Latin America to the present, and points out the main regularities in the different periods. It exposes the tendencies in the historical development of the university extension in Cuba, from the analysis of the different moments for which it has traveled, and bases its function and condition of university process given its particularities in this context, in which elements are pointed to demystify the theoretical approaches that reduce or limit the extension, as the article reflects on its importance and scope and its necessary interrelation with the other university processes. Likewise, what is the final result and contribution of the extension in the Cuban context is defined and the need to continue advancing in the improvement of its management is recognized.
